The popularity of electric vehicles in the UK has shot up over the last few years, with more than 298,000 plug-in cars on the road in 2020, compared with just 3,500 in 2013. This huge increase in electric car sales has come about because of a greater level of choice for drivers, a shift in the public's attitude towards electric cars and a constantly improving public recharging network. Combined, this means that UK electric car buyers have a greater selection of vehicles to choose from than ever before.

The future is bright too with a large number of plug-in cars - covering a wide cross-section of the market - set to be launched within the next year or so, meaning an electric car is now a viable option for a large number of motorists. The Plug-in Car Grant is guaranteed too, until at least FY 2022/23, reducing the price of pure-electic cars costing less than £50,000 by £3,000.
